Restoration of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed: Policy, technology, and a vision for the future.
Covering over 165,000 square kilometers, the Chesapeake Bay Watershed is the largest estuary in North America. It has served as the lifeline of the region for hundreds of years. However, as land use change has converted pristine environments into constructed environments, the watershed has been in decline. Since 1983, when an agreement for rehabilitation was passed, the region has become a testing ground for innovative ideas in rehabilitation.
This presentation will explore the policy and technology solutions that have evolved in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Attention will be given to multi-level collaboration and technology applications in urban and rural areas.
